Primary colours—red, blue, and yellow—form the foundation of all colour mixing. Understanding how they interact gives artists full control over their palette.
Combining primary colours produces secondary colours:
Small ratio changes create dramatically different results.
Warm and cool versions of primary colours mix differently. A warm blue and cool yellow produce dull green, while cool blue and warm yellow create vibrant green.
Limit mixes to two or three colours. Overmixing introduces grey and muddies colour.
Practising controlled colour mixing builds confidence and consistency.
