The Rolfes Series 713 Hake Brush is a broad, flat brush made with natural white hog bristles and a wide natural wooden short handle. Its generous bristle width allows it to carry and spread paint or other media efficiently over larger surfaces, while the firm hog bristles provide good control and resilience.
Ideal for broad washes, applying backgrounds and grounds, covering large areas, glazing, varnishing and bold expressive strokes, the Series 713 is a practical brush for artists, students, schools and a wide variety of creative applications. The range includes progressively wider brushes for working across different surface areas.
The Rolfes Series 713 Hake Brush combines natural white hog bristles with a broad, flat brush head and a wide natural wooden short handle. Designed for applications where greater coverage is required, the wide bristle head allows colour or other media to be distributed efficiently across larger areas.
Unlike a soft traditional goat-hair hake, the firm hog bristles of the Series 713 provide greater resistance and control. They are particularly useful when working with paints and mediums that need to be spread, worked or manipulated across the surface rather than simply flowed onto it.
The broad flat shape makes the Series 713 well suited to laying down backgrounds, blocking in large areas, applying broad washes and grounds, glazing, varnishing and creating strong, sweeping brush marks. The edge of the brush can also be used for narrower strokes and more controlled applications.
Natural hog bristle performs particularly well with acrylics, oils and alkyds, including heavier-bodied paints and mediums. The brush can also be used with gouache, tempera, poster and craft paints, as well as suitable grounds, glazes and varnishes. Its broad format also makes it useful for decorative painting and general studio or craft applications.
The short, wide wooden handle provides a comfortable grip and allows the brush to be controlled close to the working surface, particularly useful when covering larger areas on a tabletop, board, canvas or other surface.
Each brush can be specified by its hair width and hair length (out), giving the actual working dimensions of the brush head and making it easier to compare the different sizes.
After use, clean the brush promptly using the cleaning method appropriate to the paint, medium or coating used. Reshape the bristles and allow the brush to dry thoroughly before storage.
