Rolfes White Bristle Brush – Series 321, Filbert

The Rolfes Series 321 Filbert Brushes are made with firm natural white hog bristles shaped into a rounded, oval filbert head and fitted with a long olive-green handle. The resilient hog bristles provide good spring and control, while the filbert shape combines useful paint-carrying capacity with a softer edge than a conventional flat brush.

Particularly suited to oil, alkyd and acrylic painting, the Series 321 is ideal for blending, shaping, modelling forms, broad and curved strokes, soft edges and expressive brushwork. The rounded tip is especially useful for organic forms where the hard rectangular edge of a flat brush is not required.

The Rolfes Series 321 White Hog Bristle Filbert Brushes combine firm natural hog bristles with the distinctive rounded shape of a filbert and a long olive-green handle.
A filbert brings together characteristics of both flat and round brushes. Its broad body can carry and spread a useful amount of paint, while the rounded corners create softer edges and more natural, curved marks than a square-ended flat brush. This makes the Series 321 particularly versatile for painting forms that need to be modelled and blended without leaving a consistently hard edge.

The firm natural hog bristles provide the spring, resilience and strength needed to manipulate heavier-bodied colour. They hold their working shape while still allowing the bristles to separate naturally, making the brush useful for both smooth applications and more expressive, textural effects.

Used on its broad face, the filbert can lay down areas of colour, blend adjoining tones and create broad rounded strokes. Lighter pressure and the curved end allow more controlled marks, while the sides of the brush can be used for narrower strokes. It is particularly useful for blending, modelling, shading, softening edges, scumbling and painting curved or organic forms.

Natural hog bristle is especially well suited to oil, alkyd and acrylic paints, including heavier-bodied colour where a firmer brush is useful. The Series 321 can also be used with gouache, tempera, poster and craft paints where a more robust natural-bristle brush is desired.
The long handle provides additional reach for easel painting and allows the artist to work further back from the painting surface for freer, more gestural brushwork.
Currently available in Sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8.

After use, clean promptly using the method appropriate to the painting medium. Reshape the filbert head and allow the brush to dry thoroughly before storage.
